The fun ride was started by Sara
Newton then taken
over by Lions in 2012.
Sara still deals with all things equestrian as Lions know very
little about horses other than they are related to Zebras, (a good
food source).
We run the event to raise money for Cornwall
Hospice Care (Mount Edgcumbe).
The route is approximately 10 miles with a mixture of moors, pasture,
roads & woodland, it's not a race so you can ride according to your &
your horses ability. If you like a good gallop there are opportunities
along the way. The route will be marshaled where it meets the road for
your safety, we will also record your allocated rider number just in case
you get lost or have an accident, we will know where to start looking.

over £2000 raised for cornwall hospice care at this years ride!!
What a day, the weather was good the and the turn out was the best we have had!
Together you have managed to raise in excess of £2000 which will go to the Cornwall Hospice care.
There were 109 horses that were entered, the first time we have gone over the 100 mark!
I would like to thank the land owners and commoners for allowing us to use parts of their land, and also thank the Lions members that turned out to marshal the event.
Also a special thanks to Sara Newton that puts a lot of time and effort into organising the equestrian side of things.
All in all a good day, we hope you all had a great day, and hope to see you all again next year.....we can do it all again!
Well done and thank you.
Dave
Truran - Chairman Bodmin Lions Fun Ride.
First photos in by Lion Roy.
As you can see it took him one or two shots to get his focus in then all
was fine on a fine day for a horse ride.
With the A30 roadworks now at an end we are
going back to our original start/finish.
The start point is at Cardinham Downs (Our original start point).
Heading towards Bodmin from Launceston, go past the Bodmin Airfield turning and it is
the next left off the A30. It's about 1100yards, TAKE CARE
no slip road & not well marked Sign {Cardinham 2}. The start & parking
is on the moor approx 300yards on the right.
From Bodmin take the A30, over the new bridge for Bodmin Airfield, back
on the A30 towards Bodmin,
It's about 1100yards, TAKE CARE no slip road & not well
marked Sign {Cardinham 2}. The start & parking is on the moor approx
300yards on the right.
There will be some signs out just before the turning, but unfortunately they won't be large!
If you are using satnav post codes won't take you there but enter Lat
50.29.48N & Long 04.40.49W or Decimal 50.49666N 4.68027W
Depending on your sat nav it may try to route you past the airfield
ignore it keep to the written instructions above
There will be some signs out just before the turning, but unfortunately they won't be large!
What poor weather to start the day but Lions
turned out in force to marshal our annual ride. We had over 50 intrepid
riders turn up with the promise of improving weather a few down on last
year but all was well for a good event.

Donations, entries, & match funding for Loyds Bank came together to
raise £1211 for Cornwall Hospice Care.
The presentation to Cornwall hospice took place at our meeting on 3rd oct 2016
Once again we are happy to report a very successful event on Sunday
4th. September
Some 65 riders took part in a delightful ride over 10 miles of Bodmin
countryside often not normally available to the public.
All participants seemed to enjoy themselves and said how much they
appreciated the arrangements made by the Lions. With the help of Lloyd's
Bank match funding, £1395 was raised for the benefit of Cornwall Hospice
Care.
We are very grateful to local landowners for their cooperation and
especially to Gerald Worden for allowing us to use his field as a start
and finish venue at short notice.

We have the early crew sorting flags & signs ready for distribution,
from there on the it seems, there is a great deal of standing, sitting
or just posing. In spite all this apparent inactivity we successfully
booked in, guided, recorded & booked back over 100 horses & riders for
our annual Fun Ride.
